Newcastle United are looking for their next manager after it was announced that Rafa Benitez will leave St James’ Park.

According to a report from the Chronicle, representatives of Giovanni van Bronckhorst have reached out to Newcastle to register an interest following the announcement that Rafa Benitez will leave the club when his contract expires this summer.
The Toon Army were rocked this week when it was confirmed that the Spaniard will be on his way. While Benitez’s future has been up in the air pretty much since the moment he walked through the St James’ Park door, the large majority of the Magpies fans appeared to be desperately hoping that Benitez would agree a fresh contract.
Given Newcastle’s stature, it is surely no surprise that a number of managers appear to be keen on succeeding Benitez this summer, and the Chronicle has named a number of options who have had their agents already make contact with the club.
And the Chronicle notes that van Bronckhorst’s representatives have made contact with Newcastle to suggest the Dutchman as a potential candidate for the post.

Is van Bronckhorst the right man for Newcastle?
The former Arsenal and Barcelona defender is looking for his second managerial job after leaving Feyenoord at the end of last season. He spent four years with the Eredivisie side, winning the title once – their first for 18 years – and the cup on two occasions.

They enjoyed a decent campaign last term. But it would be considered a gamble by many for Newcastle to appoint van Bronckhorst given that he has only had one job and is yet to take charge of a Premier League side.
Given that lack of experience, it will be vital that he hits the ground running if he does get the job on Tyneside – especially with the fans unlikely to be particularly patient following Benitez’s imminent departure.
