It’s almost common knowledge now that Arsenal are interested in signing Atletico Madrid’s Thomas Partey.
Mundo Deportivo recently claimed that the Ghanaian is Arsenal’s number one priority for this summer. His £45 million release clause remains the biggest problem at the moment but the Gunners haven’t cooled their interest yet.
A number of Partey’s international teammates have come out and urged the midfielder to join Arsenal, which has excited a few Gunners supporters over a potential move this summer.
A few of his teammates urging him to join Arsenal is one thing but for his country’s Football Association to hope that his move goes through is something much bigger.
Why does Ghana’s FA want Partey to join Arsenal?
Ghana Sports Online claim that the country’s FA stand to be huge winners if Partey joins Arsenal this summer.
It is believed that they will try to use Partey’s influence, should he move the Emirates, to pursuade Eddie Nketiah to change his international allegiance from England to Ghana.
That would be a humongous move if they manage to pull it off. Nketiah is one of Arsenal’s brightest prospects, and getting him to represent your country would be a huge positive.
The young striker has represented England at youth level and it is likely that he will stick with the Three Lions further on in his career as well.
Ghana’s FA have previously tried something like this. The report claims that Asamoah Gyan tried the exact same move with Danny Welbeck when the two of them played together in the Premier League all those years ago.
Their move failed back then and it is very likely that it will fail again with Nketiah. However, Partey’s national team hoping for their star player to join Arsenal should be viewed as a positive by Gunners fans, even though it might not influence his decision one bit.
