According to Goal, Rangers boss Steven Gerrard wants to bring Pedro Chirivella to Ibrox – but Liverpool are offering him a five-year deal to stay at Anfield.

It’s claimed that Liverpool are desperately trying to keep Chirivella, with his contract set to expire at the end of June. Liverpool will be able to extend that until the end of the 2019-20 season, but the Spaniard will be a free agent soon.

Nantes have been heavily linked with Chirivella over the last week, with many believing he is on his way. However, Liverpool have put a long-term deal on the table, believing he could be tempted to stay.

The 22-year-old has featured six times in the Liverpool first team this season, but without any Premier League appearances to his name – and Gerrard would seemingly love to raid his former club.

It’s stated that Gerrard wants Chirivella at Rangers, for three key reasons; his professionalism, his effort in training and his tactical understanding.

Primarily a holding midfielder who can dictate play, Chirivella could be the heir to Steven Davis in the Rangers midfield. On a free transfer and with potential to grow, Chirivella could be a smart addition at Ibrox.

Yet with Liverpool now fighting to keep Chirivella at Anfield, Rangers could miss out. Chirivella has yet to make a decision, but it would take a bold man to snub a five-year deal with the European and World champions.
