Rangers are reportedly looking to bring defender Jon Flanagan to Ibrox.
According to the Daily Record, Rangers are considering a move for free agent defender Jon Flanagan as Steven Gerrard believes he can help resurrect his career.
The Gers have already brought in five new faces this summer, having landed goalkeeper Allan McGregor, defenders Nikola Katic and Connor Goldson as well as midfielders Scott Arfield and Ovie Ejaria.
Manager Gerrard will still be looking for more new faces, and there could be changes at right back given that James Tavernier attracting interest and Lee Hodson potentially surplus to requirements.
Now, the Daily Record report that Rangers are now interested in signing defender Jon Flanagan, who is a free agent given that his Liverpool contract ends this month.
The 25-year-old right back is a former teammate of Gerrard at Anfield, and the pair could reunite at Ibrox if the Gers boss gets his way with a low-cost move.
Flanagan starred under Brendan Rodgers during the 2013-14 season, but has made just 28 appearances over the last four years, with injuries taking their toll on the full back.
Flanagan – who was sentenced for assault in January – did have a loan spell with Bolton Wanderers in the second half of last season, but it’s not hard to see why Gerrard feels he can get the defender back on track after a tumultuous time.
Capable of playing at left back too, Flanagan could be a versatile option for Gerrard, and the Gers would be hoping that he can stay out of trouble and stay off the treatment table if he does sign.
