According to a report by CalcioMercato, Liverpool midfielder Georginio Wijnaldum has made his wage demands known, and they’re rather eye-watering.
The Dutch midfielder reportedly wants a salary of €10m (£8.7m), which would equate to around £170k-a-week, and while that does sound like a big wage, it sounds even bigger when you compare it to what the rest of the Liverpool squad earn.
Indeed, according to Spotrac, that weekly wage would make Wijnaldum the Reds’ fifth-highest earner, and that pay-packet would see him earn more than both Sadio Mane and Andy Robertson combined.
That sort of wage is utterly ridiculous, but it’s what Liverpool may have to pay to keep the midfielder.
Of course, the Mane and Robertson comparison is a little unfair, those two are probably both due new deals on much higher pay-grades, but that does go to show that there is value to be found.

Whether or not Liverpool will pay Wijnaldum such a wage remains to be seen, but if they don’t there may be other clubs on the continent willing to reach the Dutch international’s demands with the likes of Barcelona and Inter Milan reportedly keen.
This is certainly a situation to keep an eye on in the coming weeks as Wijnaldum’s contract ticks ever closer to its expiry date.
