Liverpool are set to take on Southampton at St. Mary’s on Saturday.

According to a report in the Daily Mail, Georginio Wijnaldum is set to replace Adam Lallana for Liverpool’s match against Southampton.

Lallana was all set to start for Liverpool on his return to St. Mary’s, but an injury which he picked up in England’s match with Spain earlier this week is set to keep him out of the fixture.

The attacking midfielder has damaged his ankle, and he will not make it back off the treatment table in time to face the Saints.

As a result, Jurgen Klopp will reportedly turn to Liverpool summer signing Wijnaldum to come into his starting line-up.

Liverpool could have brought Daniel Sturridge into their line-up, or even pushed James Milner further forward, but it is Wijnaldum who is set to get the nod.

Wijnaldum was brought to Liverpool from Newcastle United last summer, and he opened his scoring account for the Anfield club in their last outing against Watford.

Liverpool do expect Lallana to return fairly quickly, and they are not too concerned by his current injury. The 28-year-old is likely to return to training next week.
