Glasgow Rangers reportedly bid to bring George Edmundson to Ibrox this summer.
According to a report from Sky Sports, George Edmundson has now submitted a transfer request after Rangers saw a bid for the defender rejected earlier this week.
Sky Sports reports that the Gers have made a bid in excess of £500,000 for the Oldham Athletic centre-back, but that offer had been turned down by the Latics, who want around £1 million for the 21-year-old.
However, it appears that Edmundson may not have been overly pleased about seeing Rangers’ offer rejected, as Sky Sports reports that the youngster has now handed in a transfer request having already rejected a long-term contract extension.
The ball now appears to be back in Rangers’ court. It would not be a huge surprise if the Gers did return with an improved offer given that they were already willing to part with a substantial amount with their first bid.
It would be a good piece of business to get Edmundson signed in the coming weeks. Steven Gerrard clearly needs to add to his defensive options with Joe Worrall’s loan spell at Ibrox coming to an end.
They arguably need to land a more experienced option to their ranks to push both Connor Goldson and Nikola Katic, but signing prospects such as Edmundson could prove to be an incredibly shrewd move as Rangers look to surpass Celtic in the near future and stay ahead of them in the coming years.
