According to Corriere Dello Sport, Matthijs De Ligt has requested a transfer this summer amid links to Liverpool.

The Dutch centre-back has been linked with a whole host of Premier League clubs this summer, including Liverpool, Manchester United and Chelsea, and now, he’s formally requested a transfer.

It’s fair to say that De Ligt isn’t best pleased over in Turin.

Indeed, there are a few issues bothering De Ligt at Juventus, and it seems as though this situation has now reached a boiling point.

The ‘generational’ defender is, understandably, far from happy with Juve’s recent performances in Serie A – finishing fourth two seasons running, while his contract negotiations haven’t been going swimmingly either.

De Ligt is Juve’s highest-paid player, but now, Juve want to reduce the number of bonuses he can earn, while they’re also not willing to lower his release clause.

Therefore, the centre-back is ready to move on, and teams in the Premier League are ready to pounce.

Liverpool have had an eye on De Ligt for some time, and according to some reports, the Reds are very keen to pair the youngster with Virgil van Dijk at the heart of their defence.

Unfortunately for the Merseyside club, this report states that Manchester United and Chelsea are in pole position to land De Ligt, but these days, when Liverpool come calling, it’s hard to turn them down.

This is certainly a situation to keep an eye on.
