Former Birmingham City boss Gary Rowett is unlikely to take the vacant manager’s post at Rangers, despite holding talks with the Scottish giants, HITC Sport understands from sources close to the club.
Rowett held informal discussions with Rangers earlier this week as the club continue their search for a new head coach following Mark Warburton’s shock departure last month.
Under-20s coach Graeme Murty has been in caretaker charge at Ibrox since Warburton’s exit and he has presided over two wins and two defeats in his four games in charge.
A number of names have been linked with the Rangers job and Rowett is one of several to be interviewed by the Ibrox hierarchy.
Former Rangers manager Alex McLeish has said he would find it hard to turn down a return to Ibrox should he be offered another job there, while Norwich boss Alex Neill is the bookmakers’ favourite.

Rangers’ board are understood to be looking for a young head coach with, ideally, experience of Scottish football to replace Warburton and that would rule out Rowett.
Rowett is keen to get back into management after his surprise sacking at Birmingham City in December and he took up the opportunity to hold talks with Rangers.
However, it is understood Rowett is unlikely to take the talks any further and is keeping his options open as he looks fix himself up with a new club.
