Gary Cahill could end up staying at Chelsea after all.
According to The Sun, Chelsea defender Gary Cahill could perform a U-turn and stay at Stamford Bridge amid claims he wanted to leave the club.
Cahill, 32, joined Chelsea way back in January 2012 having impressed with Bolton Wanderers, and has become a mainstay of the Blues side since his move to West London.
With almost 300 appearances for Chelsea and more than 60 caps for England, Cahill has enjoyed a strong career, but is now falling out of favour for club and country.
Maurizio Sarri’s switch to a back four has left Antonio Rudiger and David Luiz as his centre back pairing, leaving Cahill to make just three starts in all competitions this season.
Cahill has played just 21 minutes in the Premier League this season, coming on for Rudiger in a 0-0 draw at West Ham United, and there have been claims that he is looking to move on.
The Mirror reported recently that West Ham are looking to sign Cahill in January, with Manuel Pellegrini seeking a bargain given that Cahill is out of contract at the end of the season.
Now though, The Sun claim that Cahill could perform a U-turn having initially wanted to leave in January, with the defender looking to see out the season with Chelsea before leaving on a free transfer.
West Ham would still be able to sign him for free next summer, but with Issa Diop and Fabian Balbuena both impressing in the Hammers back line, Cahill may struggle for first-team football even if he does make the move to East London in 2019.
