Tottenham Hotspur may have a lifeline in dream to re-sign Gareth Bale.

Tottenham Hotspur fans had to digest the disappointing report that Gareth Bale would not be re-signing on Monday.

The Welsh star sparked rumours about his future at Real Madrid by hinting that he could leave the Spanish capital during a post-match interview following his heroics in helping Zinedine Zidane’s side to Champions League glory on Saturday.

Naturally, Tottenham, where Bale spent six years until 2013, were linked with a move but The Express reported yesterday that the 28-year-old would be staying at Real.

But maybe Spurs’ dream of re-signing him isn’t dead yet.

The Independent have reported today that Bale is “very open” to the idea of returning to North London and would be “willing to make compromises on financial demands”, indicating that he may accept the pay cut needed to facilitate his return.

The Independent adds that the Lilywhites would be able to offer Bale around £200,000 per week to re-join, which is similar to what Harry Kane earns in North London.

However, Bale is contracted to the European champions until 2022 and therefore club president Florentino Perez can demand a sizable fee from Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy. He turns 29 in July and, as proven in Kiev, still has a lot to offer any football team.

The Times claimed earlier this month that Pochettino’s budget this summer could be around £150 million, and a large chunk of that might be needed to secure Bale, who is valued at around £61 million according to CIES, Football Observatory.
