Report: Galatasaray considering rivalling West Ham for Gary Cahill

West Ham United will have to see off competition from a team in this season’s Champions League if they hope to sign Gary Cahill.

According to a report from Turkish outlet Aksam, West Ham could face competition from Galatasaray as Manuel Pellegrini’s men look to try and sign Gary Cahill from Chelsea in January.

Cahill’s days with the Blues appear to be numbered. The Daily Mirror recently reported that the centre-back is out of contract in the summer and may end up leaving Stamford Bridge in January.

The report added that West Ham are keen on the defender – who earns £130,000-a-week, according to Spotrac. But Aksam is now suggesting that Gala could prove to be a rival for the Hammers, with the Turkish club looking at strengthening their options.

Where could Cahill go?

West Ham will certainly be the more attractive option for Cahill if he leaves Chelsea but hopes to stay in the Premier League at this stage of his career.

But if Cahill feels that he cannot play against his current side once he moves on, just as John Terry seemed to when he decided to head to Aston Villa last summer, then Galatasaray – who could potentially also offer Champions League football this season – may have an advantage over the Irons.

Cahill has been with the Blues for a much shorter spell than Terry was before his departure of course, so he is surely less likely to have a desire to avoid facing the Blues further down the line. But West Ham would arguably be wise to act as quickly as possible once the January window opens if they hope to stand a good chance of getting a deal done.
