The future of Wolverhampton Wanderers striker Rafa Mir could rest on Antoine Griezmann’s shoulders, with AS reporting that both are on the radar of Atletico Madrid this summer.

Jorge Mendes better clear his diary.

Because arguably the most influential agent in world football will barely have a spare minute to himself between now and the end of August.

So many of his clients, including Ruben Neves, Goncalo Guedes and James Rodriguez, are facing uncertain futures with the transfer market set to heat up after Euro 2020.

A potential return to his old stomping ground for one of the world’s most high-profile footballers is dominating the headlines over in Spain, too, with Mundo Deportivo reporting that Antoine Griezmann could be heading back to Atletico Madrid as part of a deal that will see Saul Niguez join Barcelona.

And that is where Wolves come in.

Will Rafa Mir leave Wolves for Atletico Madrid?

According to AS, the wantaway Rafa Mir is also on the radar of the newly-crowned La Liga champions.

But, the Wanda Metropolitano ain’t big enough for the both of them and it seems it will be a case of Griezmann or Mir, not both.

Atleti, then, have a decision to make.

Do they offer a route back to the Spanish capital for a 30-year-old club legend; a man whose best years may be behind him?

Or put their faith in a much younger player, one who actually equalled Griezmann’s tally of 13 La Liga goals in 2020/21, despite playing on loan for a Huesca side who ended the season suffering relegation heartbreak.

Mir is expected to reject a new contract at Molineux, having played just two league matches in three years as a Wolves player.

While Atletico may end up looking elsewhere, top-flight rivals Celta Vigo and Valencia have already expressed their interest in a striker valued at £13 million.
