Report fully contradicts Arteta’s latest claim about Arsenal signing Dani Ceballos

It has been a weird few days at Arsenal. The Gunners were widely expected to announce the signing of Gabriel Magalhaes as well as Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang’s contract extension.

They have done neither so far. Mikel Arteta seemed positive about both deals earlier today (Arsenal.com) but it’s never over until the fat lady sings and Arsenal fans are still stressed over the outcome.

Arteta also addressed the future of Dani Ceballos. The Spaniard enjoyed a successful loan spell from Real Madrid last season and the Arsenal boss has been pretty vocal about his desire to keep him at the Emirates.

Ceballos is back with the Galacticos at the moment and negotiations are said to be going on between the clubs behind the scenes. Arteta claimed that the midfielder had told him that he wanted to stay with the Gunners (Arsenal.com) but a report from Spain completely contradicts that.

Mundo Deportivo report today that Ceballos has communicated to Real Madrid that he wants to join Real Betis this summer. The Spaniard knows he has no future at the Bernabeu and he wants to move to a club where he will get regular game time.

Arsenal can offer him that but the report says that Betis are his preferred destination. That deal isn’t straight forward either. Real Madrid have reportedly asked their La Liga rivals to pay in full to sign Ceballos, something that they cannot do without selling their own players.

The Gunners might get a small window of opportunity to swoop in for him but they will also have to convince Ceballos to return to the Emirates, especially if his heart is set on a move to Betis.

The report also says that Ceballos’ future is unlikely to be resolved until the end of the transfer window in October. Arsenal will prefer to get their players in much sooner which might again play a big part in their decision.

It will be interesting to see how this pans out. Arteta, in his press conference today, seemed pretty confident about retaining Ceballos which makes this new update from Mundo Deportivo seem really strange.
