Wigan Athletic left-back Antonee Robinson has agreed a £45,000-a-week contract at Fulham and should complete his bargain £1.9 million move to Craven Cottage before the weekend, according to the Mail.

The irony in this deal will not be lost on anyone, inside or outside of West London.

After all, it was Scott Parker’s current first-choice left-back who produced a heroic, match-winning performance against Brentford in the Wembley play-off final just a fortnight ago.

But after channelling his inner Gary MacAllister with an ingenious long-range free-kick, and then breezing through the Bees defence to score the most unexpected of seconds, Joe Bryan is set to face a battle for his place in the starting XI.

According to the Mail, Fulham have fought off competition from Sheffield United, Newcastle and West Brom for USA international Robinson.

A £45,000-a-week contract has been agreed, with the former Everton youngster expected to be unveiled at Craven Cottage before Saturday.

Sheffield United had a bid accepted of their own, according to the Northern Echo, and it remains to be seen why Robinson chose a newly-promoted side over one who finished in the top half of the Premier League last season.

Perhaps the buccaneering wideman felt more comfortable about slotting into Parker’s four-man backline than having to adapt to a new-look, wing-back role under Chris Wilder.
