Fulham must improve their £4 million offer for Young Boys defender Kevin Mbabu, according to the Sun (July 18, page 51).

The newspaper claims Mbabu is valued at twice that amount by the Swiss side – although Sky Sports reports (liveblog entry 08:38) they may want as much as £10 million after turning down FC Basel’s £7 million bid.

The 23-year-old has got his career back on track in his homeland – where he became a league winner last season – having only played five times in four years at Newcastle United.

And he could be the ideal replacement for Ryan Fredericks at Fulham, after the right-back’s transfer to West Ham United.

That said, Mbabu is also capable of playing anywhere across the back line, aided by his six-feet-plus frame.

The pacy former Switzerland Under-20 international moved to Newcastle for around £900,000 from Servette, but left on a free transfer last summer.
