Fulham are in advanced talks over a deal that would see Bordeaux striker Josh Maja return to West London on the final day of the January transfer window, as reported by All Nigeria Soccer.
If Scott Parker had a clinical goal-scorer to call on, the Cottagers would be two points closer to safety right now.
But, after missing a whole host of chances in Saturday’s frustrating 2-2 draw with West Brom, Fulham are now eight points adrift of 17th-place Brighton – albeit with a game in hand.
It remains to be seen, however, if Maja is capable of putting away enough of the chances created by the likes of Ademola Lookman, Bobby Decordova-Reid and a rejuvenated Ruben Loftus-Cheek.
The Lewisham-born Nigeria international has scored just twice in 17 Ligue 1 matches for Bordeaux in 2020/21.
Maja did score for fun at Sunderland before swapping Wearside for Wine Country, however, and will be hoping to rediscover that Midas Touch if he completes an initial loan move to Craven Cottage before tonight’s 11:00pm deadline.
ANS reports that talks have reached an advanced stage. Maja’s agent also played a key role in the deal that saw fellow Nigerian Ola Aina join from Torino last summer.
“All I know is what I see and, right now, he has good movement, knows where the goal is,” former Fulham boss Chris Coleman said of Maja in 2017 after Sunderland secured a hard-fought victory against, strangely enough, Fulham (Chronicle).
“The signs are good, good movement, great first touch and the finish was sublime as well. His future will be what he wants it to be.”
Maja played for Fulham at youth level before joining Sunderland in 2015.
