Fulham’s Vice Chairman Tony Khan told the Times earlier this week that the Cottagers will not spend another £100 million in transfers, like they did the last time they achieved promotion to the Premier League.

As disappointing as it is to a few fans, it does not mean that Fulham cannot buy good players. Big-money signings don’t automatically guarantee success and nobody knows it better than the Lilywhites now.

Fulham will need to be smart with their additions this summer and, if a report is to be believed, they have found an excellent player who knows the club pretty well.

The Sun claim that Scott Parker is eyeing a move for Arsenal’s Calum Chambers this summer. The Englishman spent a season on loan at Craven Cottage when the Lilywhites were in the top flight two years ago, and he was voted as the club’s Player of the Year thanks to his performances.

Chambers has been out of action since rupturing his cruciate ligament just a few days after Christmas last year. The report claims that the England international is back in training and is eyeing for a return to action next month which is perfect for Fulham if they can get the deal over the line.

Still only 25, Chambers can offer a lot of quality in multiple areas of the pitch. The Arsenal man can play as a central defender, at right-back and even as a number six, a position where he excelled in during his loan spell at Fulham two years ago.

The report claims that Arsenal would be willing to part ways with Chambers for as little as £12 million which really is strange considering that he still has two years left on his contract.

The Gunners splashed £16 million to sign the versatile Englishman back in 2014 (BBC) and it makes very little sense for them to make a loss on him, especially at a time when they are trying to make as much money as they possibly can through player sales.

Even if Arsenal demand a fee in excess of what has actually been reported, Chambers is worth the money. The Englishman will offer cover in multiple areas for Fulham and the the fact that he knows the club well already is an added boost for Parker and his side ahead of a potential move.
