Fulham playmaker Tom Cairney is reportedly wanted by Newcastle United, Watford and West Ham United.
According to The Mirror, Fulham are prepared to sell star playmaker Tom Cairney for £20million this summer if they don’t win promotion to the Premier League this season.
Cairney, 27, has been a star for Fulham ever since his 2015 arrival from Blackburn Rovers, and he particularly caught the eye last season, notching 13 goals and 10 assists.
The Scot has grabbed three goals and four assists this season, with his influence building in recent weeks as Fulham have put together a remarkable 16-game unbeaten run in the Championship.
However, it’s now claimed that if Slavisa Jokanovic’s side fail to win promotion to the Premier League this season, they are ready to grant Cairney a move to the top flight, for a fee of around £20million.
Three-way race for his signature?
Cairney is bound to attract interest, and it’s reported that three Premier League clubs – Newcastle, Watford and West Ham United – are all keen to sign Cairney at the end of the season.
Newcastle have been linked with Cairney for over a year now, and manager Rafael Benitez may still want the Magpies to break their transfer record in order to sign the midfielder this summer.
West Ham strongly pursued Cairney in January but came up short, and their interest may well depend on the future of manager David Moyes, given that David Sullivan will be taking a step back from recruitment this summer.
Watford are a new entrant to the race for Cairney’s signature, and Fulham may be looking at a three-way race for their star man’s signature this summer.
