Newcastle United and Leicester City are both said keen on the ‘£20-million-rated’ Fulham captain.

Fulham are bracing themselves for a £20 million-plus bid from Newcastle United for midfield star Tom Cairney, but could face competition from Leicester City, according to the Sun.
The report claims Leicester have ‘increased their interest’ in Cairney, for whom Newcastle are said to have failed with a £20 million approach last summer.
The Scotland international was named in the EFL Championship Team of the Season on Tuesday, despite having sat out 12 of Fulham’s fixtures.
And the Cottagers, whose received their final parachute payment at the start of this season, will surely struggle to keep hold of Cairney if they fail to gain promotion this campaign.

Despite their long-standing interest, Newcastle could struggle to compete with Leicester – who are situated only 30 miles south of Cairney’s hometown, Nottingham, and may be able to offer European football next term – should the 27-year-old come available.
