Fulham have agreed a deal to sign PSV Eindhoven defender Timo Baumgartl on loan with an option to buy, according to reports from the Netherlands.

While the calamitous Cottagers were much improved in their 1-0 defeat to Wolverhampton Wanderers on Sunday, the fact remains that Scott Parker’s men are bottom of the table with a grand total of zero points heading into the first international break of 2020/21.

Fulham are desperate to bring in a new central defender before today’s transfer deadline and, while deals for the likes of Marlon Santos and Jonathan Tah have hit the buffers, the Londoners appear to have finally reached a breakthrough.

Former Germany U21 international Baumgartl is on his way to Craven Cottage on loan with an option to buy, according to ED.

Voetbal International backs up those claims after the ex-Stuttgart youngster, who moved to Holland for £9 million just last year, was left out of PSV’s squad for the 2-0 Eredivisie victory over Fortuna Sittard on Sunday.

6ft 2ins Baumgartl struggled to establish himself as a regular at the Phillips Stadium, and it remains to be seen whether he is the man to reinforce a Fulham defence that once again looks set to be their Achilles heel in the Premier League.
