The Arsenal winger Reiss Nelson was a late window Crystal Palace target, claimed Football.London at the time.

Palace were said to be among the clubs keen to secure Nelson’s signature as his representatives and Arsenal worked on finding him a temporary home.

But no such move materialised and the apparently frustrated 20-year-old continued to find regular first-team football hard to come by north of the river.

According to The Daily Mirror, Nelson was partly to blame for that, having rejected the chance to leave on loan ahead of the October transfer deadline – though there is no mention of Crystal Palace being an option on that occasion.

But things appear to be looking up for the England Under-21 international, who played 45 minutes of Arsenal’s 0-0 draw at Leeds last weekend and the full 90 as Mikel Arteta’s side strolled to a 3-0 win in Molde on Thursday – a game in which he scored.

And, with any luck, his patience will continue to pay off in the coming weeks and months.

If not, then Nelson may be best advised to reconsider his alleged decision – especially in a European Championship year.

And his progress is something on which Crystal Palace might wish to keep an eye.
