Nottingham Forest manager Dougie Freedman is still searching for a new goalkeeper.
The Nottingham Post has reported that Nottingham Forest have pulled out of the race to sign goalkeeper Niki Maenpaa after holding initial talks with the Finnish 30-year-old.
Forest boss Dougie Freedman appears to be hard at work on ways he can improve his team ahead of next season, with the restriction of a transfer embargo still hanging over the head of the football club.
Karl Darlow did a superb job between the sticks for Forest last season, but he’s expected to head back to the club that now owns him, Newcastle United, which creates a hole in the squad that the manager needs to fill.
The paper suggests that Freedman does have other options in the form of Adam Bogdan and Matt Gilks, but there is no need for the Scot to rush over the decision, with plenty of time before the squad returns for pre-season training and the summer transfer window officially opens.
Dorus de Vries will likely start the season as Forest’s number one, but it’s important the manager brings in some cover and gives the squad a different option.
Freedman is the sort of manager who seems to like having players who challenge each other and motivate each other to engage in healthy competition for places.
The goalkeeper is a very important position for Forest next season and Freedman has to make sure all bases are covered.
