The former Cardiff City man had a choice between Norwich and Ipswich, but looks to end up signing on with the Tractor Boys.

Ipswich Town have secured the first set of bragging rights over their fierce rivals Norwich City by beating the Canaries to the signing of former Cardiff City midfielder Tom Adeyemi, as reported by the East Anglian Daily Times.

The 25-year-old, who started his career with Norwich, made 29 appearances in the Championship last season on loan at Rotherham United – scoring six goals and claiming two assists – but has decided to leave Cardiff with his contract expiring.

However, it appears that previous ties to the Canaries count for little to Adeyemi, as the midfielder has elected to sign for Norwich’s biggest rivals in Ipswich Town, after receiving contract offers from both sides in recent weeks, and a deal could be announced today (30/6/2017).

The news will be a big blow to Norwich, especially given Adeyemi’s ties to the club – the midfielder made 17 appearances in all competitions for the Canaries – as not only have they missed out on a midfielder, but they’ve lost out on him to Ipswich.

Mick McCarthy, on the other hand, will be ecstatic as his task of making Ipswich a competitive side again – after a dismal season by Town’s standards – has taken a big leap in a forwards direction following the capture of the 25-year-old.

Ipswich finished 16th last season, just four points above the relegation zone, while Norwich finished in eighth place – 10 points behind sixth placed Fulham – and have a new manager in Daniel Farke to start the 2017/18 campaign.
