Leeds United fans would be forgiven for not remembering the name Fredrik Aursnes.
After all, the Norwegian midfielder has never played for Leeds, and he didn’t become embroiled in a transfer saga.
Aursnes was though linked with Leeds after winning promotion last season, with The Sun claiming that Leeds were plotting a £5million move.
No deal was done in the end, but with Leeds often scouting in Norway, it wouldn’t be a surprise if he is still on the radar.
Aursnes is predominantly a holding midfield player, and with Leeds needing more cover for Kalvin Phillips, the 25-year-old would certainly make sense.
Aursnes is a relentless runner in midfield, so he could certainly fit into Marcelo Bielsa’s style from that perspective, but he’s now attracting very lofty interest.
VG report that Atletico Madrid now want to sign Aursnes, with Atalanta also keen as the midfielder prepares to leave Norway this summer.

Those are two Champions League sides now looking to sign Aursnes, meaning that Leeds may have missed their chance.
A move to Atletico would see Aursnes work with Diego Simeone, a man who worked under Marcelo Bielsa during his time in the Argentinian national team setup.
That could be a little frustrating if Aursnes is still on the radar at Elland Road, and the rumours could yet spark Victor Orta into action.
