Everton will reportedly look to sell Jean-Philippe Gbamin this summer, with Frank Lampard eager to end the Ivory Coast international’s torrid time at Goodison Park in the coming weeks.
According to the Times, the Toffees will look to sell Gbamin for good in the final month of the summer transfer window three years after the midfielder joined Everton from Mainz 05 in a deal worth a reported £25m, yet the 26-year-old has only made eight appearances in total for the Premier League side.
A thigh injury kept Gbamin out for the majority of his first season in England before the midfielder suffered an Achilles tendon problem that kept the Ivorian out for another year, with a knock to the knee then following in what could be considered one of the unluckiest spells for any Premier League player in recent memory.
Whilst Gbamin is currently back to full fitness this year after joining CSKA Moscow on loan in January, Everton and the player are seemingly keen on a sale of sorts this summer, with the Toffees currently working on re-signing Idrissa Gana Gueye from PSG as per the Times.
After such awful injury luck, it makes sense why Everton are now looking to sell Gbamin with the midfielder also keen on leaving the city of Liverpool, with a fresh start exactly what the talented French-born star needs after a three-year spell to forget in the Premier League.
Indeed, it’s very easy to forget that Gbamin joined Everton as one of the most exciting midfielders in Europe, yet with injuries plaguing the Ivorian’s time at Goodison Park, we will perhaps never know just how good the former Mainz star could have become had he stayed fit and healthy.
Everton are making a good decision in trying to sell Gbamin

Everton’s transfer luck in recent years has been as rotten as you can get in top-flight football, yet the story of Gbamin is arguably the saddest and the one that summarises the Toffees’ time in the market in the past few seasons, which is why selling the midfielder makes a tonne of sense.
The 26-year-old has hardly kicked a ball in the three years he has spent at Everton, and the club now selling Gbamin feels like the right decision for all parties involved, with the midfielder in need of a change of scenery for the upcoming season.
