According to The Sun, Chelsea are growing increasingly confident of bringing West Ham United’s Declan Rice back to the club.
It’s claimed that Chelsea have contacted West Ham about a potential deal, and think they can get a deal done for around £45million.
Despite predominantly playing as a midfielder during his time in the West Ham first team, it’s stated that Frank Lampard surprisingly views him as a centre back.
Rice is allegedly open to switching position, with Lampard wanting him to play in a back three with the Blues next season and beyond.
Chelsea having a transfer ban last summer seems to be helping them now, as they have cash reserves that other clubs don’t in light of the global pandemic.
They have already signed Hakim Ziyech and Timo Werner, so bringing Rice back to Stamford Bridge would be another major investment for the club.
Rice, 21, spent eight years in the Chelsea setup from 2006 to 2014, and may feel there is unfinished business with the Blues as a result.
West Ham seemingly know they will struggle to keep the England international even if they stay in the Premier League, with Chelsea making their move early.
