Newly-appointed manager Xavi Hernandez is keen to make Manchester City star Ferran Torres his first signing for FC Barcelona.

According to Mundo Deportivo, the fourth-time UEFA Champions League winner is a big fan of the Spanish international. With the report stating that Xavi likes how Torres is capable of playing in ‘extreme’ environments.

The 21-year-old talent has emerged as one of City’s best attacking players since arriving from Spain in 2020. The forward hit 13 goals in all competitions last season. And Torres has once again taken up the centre-forward position when fit.

Injury has kept the attacker out of action since September, though. And Torres could struggle to regain his spot in the City XI with the team flying at the moment, and Barcelona could be a tempting proposition.

Despite their position heading into the international break, the Catalan giants remain one of the biggest clubs in world football. And under Xavi, Barcelona will be hoping to rebuild themselves with one of their most iconic players steering the ship.

Indeed, City’s players have always been linked with Barcelona. Pep Guardiola admitted earlier this week that Raheem Sterling could leave for his former club based on the pull they have on players.

Whilst Torres could be open to returning to Spain, City must do all they can to ensure the attacker remains. With the youngster one of the most exciting players on the club’s books.

With the attacker flourishing last season, Torres could well do the same once back to full fitness. And with no natural striker at City, the Spanish international is the closest thing Guardiola has to this in the squad.
