Shane Long, Angus Gunn and Yan Valery are unlikely to have a future at Southampton with Newcastle United linked to the latter, as reported by Hampshire Live.
While Moi Elyounoussi and Mario Lemina may be rewarded for their impressive performances on loan at Celtic and Fulham respectively – a second chance for two forgotten men – not everyone on the club’s bloated roster will be so lucky.
Reports from the South Coast claim four players – Long, Gunn, Valery and Jake Vokins – are unlikely to be part of Ralph Hasenhuttl’s plans for 2021/22.
£12 million Long, one of the club’s longest-serving players, has fallen down the pecking order during the Hasenhuttl era and hasn’t set the world alight on loan at local rivals Bournemouth either.
The experienced Ireland international scored just twice in 11 Championship games.
Gunn, meanwhile, has been in and out of the Stoke City team, with a number of high-profile errors littering his spell in Staffordshire.
Southampton’s reported pursuit of highly rated Lazio goalkeeper Thomas Strakosha means the one-time Norwich City youngster may be sold to make room for a new shot-stopper.

Full-backs Vokins and Valery have also found life difficult on loan at Sunderland and Birmingham City respectively.
Vokins, in particular, may have been hoping for an opportunity following Ryan Bertrand’s departure but if appears Southampton will look elsewhere for a left-back.
Brentford’s Rico Henry is one option.
FootMercato, meanwhile, reported earlier this month that 22-year-old Valery may be offered a Premier League lifeline by Newcastle United, with Marseille and Borussia Monchengladbach also interested.
But while the former France U18 international has undoubted potential, his most recent outings in red-and-white stripes have been far from convincing.
