Newcastle United are reportedly planning talks with four players.

According to The Mirror, Newcastle United have pencilled in DeAndre Yedlin, Matt Ritchie, Isaac Hayden and Jonjo Shelvey for contract talks.

The Magpies have made a patchy start to the season, and a host of players have contract issues to deal with over the coming months.

Andy Carroll, Federico Fernandez, Ki Sung-yueng, Javi Manquillo and Karl Darlow are among the player out of contract next summer, but Newcastle are focusing on those expiring in 2021.

Yedlin, Ritchie, Hayden and Shelvey are all inside the final two years of their contracts, and it’s claimed that they’re all about to hold talks with Newcastle about their futures.

Hayden has previously made reference to wanting to move back down South, but that was before his former Hull manager Steve Bruce took charge at St James’ Park, which has seemingly made him a little happier.

Ritchie is about to turn 30, which may impact Newcastle’s plans, whilst Yedlin has a battle on his hands to overtake Emil Krafth at right back, and Shelvey admitted to The Guardian last week that he nearly joined West Ham over the summer.

Each situation could go either way, but it’s noted that Bruce has dangled new contracts in front of first-team player, in the hope that it will make them push for new terms rather than create uncertainty.

Bruce is now hoping that tactic pays off, and there may be news imminently about those new deals, with fans no doubt concerned about the lack of news surrounding Fabian Schar’s contract, as his also expires in 2021 and is more important than the four set for talks.
