Former Blackburn Rovers striker Danny Graham is keen on the idea of returning to Sunderland this summer if his wages fit into the club’s salary cap limit, according to the Chronicle.
While the veteran striker famously flopped during his first spell at the Stadium of Light, scoring just once after his £6 million move from Hull City, things could be very different now.
Sunderland have fallen a long way since their Premier League days after all.
While Graham found goals hard to come by in the top flight, life should be a lot easier against Rochdale, Gillingham, Bristol Rovers and co.
The 35-year-old fired Blackburn to promotion with 14 goals in League One three seasons ago.
And, according to reports from the north east, Graham is interested in the opportunity to repeat the trick at Sunderland, with the Gateshead-born target man keen to return to his roots after four years in Lancashire.
It remains to be seen whether Sunderland can afford him, however, with a £2.5 million salary cap making reinforcements difficult; even if Remi Matthews did arrive to boost Phil Parkinson’s goalkeeping ranks over the weekend.

“We want to get in another forward and he’s one we’ve spoken to,” Parkinson told the Echo over the weekend after a 3-1 pre-season triumph over Graham’s hometown club Gateshead.
“It’s an important position as everyone knows and tight games can be settled by that one, clinical finish. The more strikers you have in the building, the better chance you’ve got.”
Sunderland have already signed one new forward with an impressive League One record, ex-Millwall front man Aiden O’Brien.
And Black Cats fans will be praying that Will Grigg can finally live up to his £4 million price-tag after an exceptional cameo against Gateshead.
