Martin Caceres may be short of fitness after a year on the sidelines, but his Premier League snub will still disappoint suitors of the experienced defender.

Former Juventus defender Martin Caceres is set to snub reported interest from the Premier League and stay in Serie A, according to Calciomercato.
The 29-year-old has been heavily linked with Chelsea and a reunion with former Juve coach Antonio Conte (below) in recent weeks after being released from his contract by the Serie A champions in the summer, as reported by the Independent.

Milan, Inter and Roma have also been credited with an interest in the 68-time capped Uruguayan international, whose unattached status means he is free to move clubs outside of the transfer window.
However, despite injuries restricting him to just 16 Serie A appearances in the last two seasons, Caceres has made it clear that he has no interest in reviving his career with a move abroad, with newly-promoted Cagliari keen to partner him with Portuguese veteran Bruno Alves (below), according to Calciomercato.

This represents a further blow to Chelsea, who also failed to secure the services of fellow centre-backs Kalidou Koulibaly, Kostas Manolas, Leonardo Bonucci and Alessio Romagnoli in a frustrating transfer window.
Despite his lack of match practice in recent years, Caceres still has plenty of time at the top level, although joining Cagliari means he is unlikely to add to his impressive accumulation of titles. Caceres has won five Serie A medals, two Coppa Italias, one La Liga and Copa Del Rey crown and the Champions League in 2009 while at Barcelona.
