According to NOS, Marcel Brands could now join Ajax to replace Marc Overmars, just weeks after leaving Everton in December.

What’s the story?

Well, the Dutchman resigned from his role as Director of Football at Everton in December, as a result of differing ideas between him and the Board.

Now, he could land a job at one of the biggest clubs in Europe.

NOS believe Brands would be the perfect candidate to replace Overmars, who was recently sacked for allegedly sending inappropriate messages (BBC).

They state that the former Everton man has a great chance of being hired by Ajax, due to his efforts for PSV Eindhoven in the past.

While working as Director of Football at the Eredivisie outfit before joining Everton, Brands helped to win the title on three occasions.

The 59-year-old also won the Eredivisie while working as Director of Football at AZ Alkmaar.

Marcel Brands could embarrass Everton

If Brands goes to Ajax and enjoys more success, Everton will be one of the few places he has struggled to succeed throughout his career.

In our view, that says more about the Toffees than it does about Brands.

Furthermore, if he succeeds in Amsterdam, and things do not pick up at Goodison Park, it will suggest that whatever vision Brands had for Everton was probably better than what Farhad Moshiri and Bill Kenwright envisaged.

It’s a similar situation to what happened with Lucas Digne.

In their statement, Everton revealed they were giving Rafa Benitez their “full support” after Brands left, which suggests they sided with the Spaniard.

Now, he has also left Goodison Park, so only time will tell if Everton live to regret allowing Brands to leave.
