Nottingham Forest have reached an agreement with Steve Cooper to take over as manager of the club.

According to Sky Sports News, the former Swansea City boss will succeed Chris Hughton at the Championship side. As per the report, an official announcement is ‘expected’ to be made by Forest today regarding Cooper.

The 41-year-old coach left Swansea this summer after the Welsh side were beaten in the Championship play-offs. Cooper is well regarded in the game, with the soon-to-be Forest manager guiding England to the U-17 FIFA World Cup in 2017.

Indeed, Cooper is an exciting addition to Forest and a smart replacement for Hughton. The Nottingham side have endured an awful start to the season, with the two-time UEFA Champions League winners losing six games and winning just once.

Moreover, that sole victory came last weekend, after Hughton had left his position as manager of Forest. Cooper is expected to be in charge of the side by Saturday’s Championship clash against Millwall.

A coach that is known for his work with youth talent, Cooper is well-equipped to take over at Forest given the plethora of youngsters the Championship side have on their books.

Djed Spence, James Garner and Alex Mighten will no doubt develop over the next few months.

With Forest bottom of the Championship, though, Cooper’s main aim will be to drag the Nottingham side away from danger. But with just seven games of the season played, the former Swansea boss has time to turn the ship around.
