According to Meczyki, Nottingham Forest agreed to increase West Bromwich Albion’s Kamil Grosicki’s wages before running out of time to secure a deal for him.

New Reds boss Chris Hughton was eager to strengthen his squad.

Forest managed to secure a loan deal for Fulham’s Anthony Knockaert, and they tried to improve further with the addition of West Brom’s Poland international Grosicki.

Mecyzki, however, claim they missed the deadline by a mere 21 seconds.

The Polish editorial say the delays were over personal terms. Forest and West Brom had previously agreed to a loan, but personal terms were holding a deal up.

Forest eventually agreed to pay Grosicki more than his current £25,000 per week wages (Spotrac), but they filed the paperwork too late and missed the 5pm deadline.

Chris Hughton’s side, however, are still hopeful of signing the West Brom man. It is said they will appeal the decision and likely receive an answer early next week.

It sums up what has been a turbulent summer for the East Midlands side.

Forest incredibly missed out on a top-six spot in the Championship last season on goal difference following an astonishing 4-1 home defeat to Stoke City on the final day.

What ensued was huge changes to the playing squad. Matty Cash was sold to Aston Villa, and over ten new players arrived including Lyle Taylor, Harry Arter and Scott McKenna.

But four straight Championship defeats cost Sabri Lamouchi his job.

Now, Forest turn to Chris Hughton who has promotion experience with both Newcastle United and Brighton and Hove Albion, and they will hope he can lead them on.
