According to The Chronicle, Newcastle United have extended Florent Indalecio’s time at the club until May as he seeks a long-term deal.

Indalecio has been on trial with Newcastle over the last month, but now has until May to show that he should be given a permanent deal at St James’ Park.

The 23-year-old is known to be a friend of Allan Saint-Maximin from their time together in the Saint-Etienne ranks, and he will now play for Newcastle’s Under-23’s this season.

Primarily a creative midfield player, Indalecio scored a stunning overhead kick in Newcastle training last month, and has done enough to an earn a short-term deal until the summer.

Indalecio was considered to be a hot prospect with Saint-Etienne, but whilst Saint-Maximin has become a Premier League star, Indalecio has taken a different, less-travelled path.

He followed a friend to Australia and began working as a builder, playing part-time football with Fraser Park FC, before Saint-Maximin recommended him to Newcastle.

Maybe Newcastle have found a diamond in the rough, maybe he will amount to nothing, but Newcastle are at least casting their net far and wide in the search of future talent.
