Carlos Pena, Fabio Cardoso, Bruno Alves, Daniel Candeias and Eduardo Herrera were brought to Rangers by Caixinha and could leave with him too.

Rangers manager Pedro Caixinha is seen prior to the Betfred League Cup Quarter Final at Firhill Stadium on September 19, 2017 in Glasgow, Scotland.

One of the key lines that stood out in Rangers’ official statement following the departure of manager Pedro Caixinha on Thursday was this; ‘Results have been disappointing and not commensurate with the level of investment that was made available’, per the Daily Record.

It’s difficult to disagree. Caixinha splurged around £10 million in the summer transfer window as part of a wide-ranging recruitment drive intended the close the gap between Rangers and their Old Firm rivals Celtic.

Nine games into the season, however, and Rangers are closer to Ross County in eighth than they are to Celtic at the top. And the majority of the players brought into Ibrox from abroad, many of whom have worked with Caixinha before, have been a huge disappointment.

As such, the Daily Record claims that the futures of five of Caixinha’s summer signings are already hanging in the balance after the Portuguese was dismissed by the Ibrox giants.

The report states that Bruno Alves, Fabio Cardoso, Daniel Candeias, Eduardo Herrera and Carlos Pena (above) are all facing an uncertain future in Glasgow as Rangers may be forced to cut their losses in January following the departure of the manager who brought the imported quintet to Ibrox.

Herrera and Pena, who cost a combined £4 million when arriving from Mexican football, have been a huge disappointment so far. Pena has been frequently slammed for ineffective displays while Herrera has just two goals in 11 games.

Portuguese centre-back pairing Alves and Cardoso have been far from impenetrable. 37-year-old Alves, a Euro 2016 champion, hasn’t been at his best while Cardoso has struggled to adapt to the British game.

And while Candeias has been impressive following his arrival from Benfica, it was his missed penalty in Wednesday’s draw with Kilmarnock, preceeding Chris Burke’s last gasp leveller, that drilled the final nail in Caixinha’s coffin.
