The Evening Standard claim (Monday, 12:48) that Tottenham midfielder Harvey White is the subject of loan interest from five clubs. Sunderland are one of those, in a move that could see White team up with Jermain Defoe.

White, 20, has failed to make a single senior appearance for Spurs this season – despite being named on the bench in six of Tottenham’s games in all competitions. Instead, he has played 20 times for the 23’s.

He has produced 14 goal involvements in that time, scoring seven and creating seven. Last season, White spent the second half of last season on loan at Portsmouth – and Pompey are one of the five clubs interested.

Along with Portsmouth, are Championship clubs Luton, Hull and Stoke – but the latter are eyeing a summer move. Sunderland are also keen, with The Northern Echo reporting that Defoe could return to the Stadium of Light.

Sunderland have already done business with Tottenham this month, bringing in Jack Clarke on loan. They also boast Dennis Cirkin, though they have just sacked Lee Johnson after a 6-0 defeat to Bolton.

Race for White hots up: Which club is best for Tottenham star?

With Stoke only eyeing a summer move, Luton are the best-placed side – sitting 10th in the Championship. Under Nathan Jones, White would thrive but would he start? Hull are fighting off the threat of relegation.

Spurs, ideally, will want White to get plenty of game time in a side that dominate the ball – giving him a chance to get the best out of him. Sunderland might be perfect, alongside Clarke, Cirkin and possibly Defoe.
