Italian journalist Alfredo Pedulla claims Tottenham have offered Fiorentina a swap deal to sign Sofyan Amrabat – with Gio Lo Celso going the other way. But La Viola have opted to reject the move, and would prefer a cash offer.
Lo Celso, 25, is one of a number of Tottenham players that could leave the club at the end of the season. Antonio Conte also wants rid of Dele Alli and Tanguy Ndombele, with the Italian preferring to use defensive midfielders.
Currently with Argentina during the international break, Lo Celso would have to produce a medical in South America if he is to leave Spurs. Pedulla claims Lo Celso was offered to Dusan Vlahovic’s side this month.
Spurs are very interested in signing Morocco star Sofyan Amrabat, and it is believed a loan-to-buy offer is on the cards. But Fabio Paratici tried to sign the African ace by handing over Lo Celso in a swap – which was rejected.
Lo Celso for Amrabat: Tottenham trying to save cash everywhere
While many would see offloading a player such as Lo Celso – who is unneeded at Spurs – to bring in Amrabat as clever business, it is another sign that Tottenham are trying to do things on the cheap.
Daniel Levy’s tight stronghold on the Tottenham coffers remain – so much so that they could be about to miss out on Adama Traore and Luis Diaz to Barcelona and Liverpool, according to reports this week.
Amrabat looks like he will end up at Spurs on a deal that will include a permanent clause. While offloading Lo Celso in the same move would have helped, it is just another example of Levy trying to do things on the cheap.
