Scottish Premiership giants Rangers are still being linked with reuniting Martin Skrtel to his former Liverpool team-mate Steven Gerrard.

According to Fotospor, Fenerbahce’s experienced centre-back Martin Skrtel has turned down a move to Rangers despite the opportunity to reunite with Steven Gerrard at Ibrox.
It is no secret that the Glasgow giants will be left a little short at the back over the summer. Gareth McAuley is expected to leave when his contract expires while loanee Joe Worrall will return to Nottingham Forest.
As a result, Rangers will need a new centre-back and it seems that they are prioritising experience. The Daily Record claim that Rennes’ Mozambique international Edson Mexer is a top target.
And it seems that Skrtel, Gerrard’s former Liverpool team-mate who was heavily linked a year ago, is still on their radar. But it seems that Rangers are barking up the wrong tree.
Fotospor claims that Skrtel has turned down the chance to join Rangers. The 34-year-old, who is expected to leave Fenerbahce on a free this summer, has also rejected the chance to move to Italy with Parma.

Skrtel’s agent Karel Csonto told The Record last summer that Rangers simply could not afford to sign the one-time Anfield powerhouse, pointing out that he’d have to accept a big pay cut.
And it seems that the situation hasn’t changed – he was earning almost £70,000 a week at Fenerbahce last season, Fotospor add.
