Newcastle United are ready to allow Matz Sels to leave the club this summer, and Fenerbahce are ready to offer him a way out.

A report in the Chronicle has suggested that Fenerbahce are ready to rival a host of Belgian clubs for Newcastle goalkeeper Matz Sels, but may not put forward a proposal that the Magpies are overly keen on.

The Chronicle reports that Sels is free to leave St James’ Park this summer, just one year after his £5.5 million arrival with Rafa Benitez wanting to sign a new goalkeeper ahead of the club’s return to the Premier League.

According to the Chronicle, while a cluster of teams from the 25-year-old’s home country Belgium are keen on a deal, they are struggling with the stopper’s wage demands, seemingly paving the way for the Turkish giants to make a move.

However, Newcastle’s hopes of shifting Sels off their books permanently could be dealt a blow with the Chronicle suggesting that Fener would rather sign the goalkeeper on a season-long loan deal which includes an option to buy next summer.

It is perhaps hardly surprising that Newcastle are struggling to get rid of Sels permanently as he endured a difficult first season with the Magpies, swiftly losing his place to Karl Darlow in the team after a string of poor displays.

But with seemingly few sides interested in taking him, it would perhaps make sense for the Magpies to drop their asking price considerably in the hope that it attracts greater interest.
