Newcastle and Spurs are expected to revamp their squads this summer.
Turkish outlet Sporx have claimed that Turkish giants Fenerbahce want to sign Leicester City striker Islam Slimani despite his woeful loan spell with Newcastle United, in a move that will have ramifications for Tottenham Hotspur.
Slimani, 29, managed just four appearances for the Toon during 2017-18 after the target man joined Rafa Benitez’s side on loan in January until the end of the season. He failed to find the back of the net in black and white stripes.
Despite his recent poor form and struggles with injury, Fener are said to be interested in giving the striker a chance to reignite his career in Turkey after costing Leicester a huge £29million to sign him from Sporting Lisbon.
Fener boasted Roberto Soldado and Vincent Janssen as options up front this season, with the latter on loan with the Turkish outfit from Tottenham Hotspur. He scored five goals in 18 games for the SuperLig side.
But if Fener are set to sign Slimani, the report claims that a permanent deal for Janssen will be ignored and the Holland international will return to north London with a big decision set to be made on his future.
Mauricio Pochettino is widely expected to sell Fernando Llorente this summer, leaving a space as Harry Kane’s back-up in his Spurs squad. Yet it remains to be seen if he will hand Janssen a second chance in that role, or recruit elsewhere.
Janssen, 23, has two years remaining on the four-year deal he signed in 2016, which the Daily Star claim is worth £25,000 a week.
