Report: Fenerbahce still looking to sell Skrtel after failed Rangers bid

Rangers failed in their first attempt to sign Fenerbahce defender Martin Skrtel.

Turkish outlet FutbolArena claim Fenerbahce are still looking to sell commanding defender Martin Skrtel this summer after Rangers had a bid rejected for the ex-Liverpool star.

The 33-year-old’s wages seemingly priced the Gers out of a move to sign the Slovakia international, despite his agent telling Turkish TV station Markiza that his client would be keen to move to Ibrox.

But with Rangers seemingly unable to afford Skrtel’s demands, Fener are taking on a new approach to sell the hard-hitting defender by offering him to clubs in the Chinese Super League and the Qatari Stars League.

The Daily Record claim Rangers have pulled out of the running because Fener were demanding a huge £5million, before the Gers had to work out a way in which to meet Skrtel’s £60k-a-week wage demands.

Gerrard has been linked with a whole host of former and current Liverpool stars, with Lucas Leiva, Dom Solanke, Ryan Kent, Harry Wilson and Ben Woodburn all reportedly being considered at Ibrox.

But it seems as though Skrtel will be moving to Asia instead of Scotland, with Fener looking to sell him to a club that can afford his astronomical wages.
