Report: Fenerbahce offer Kevin Mirallas Everton escape but deal looks unlikely

Kevin Mirallas was expected to leave Everton on deadline day but is still stuck at Goodison Park for the time being.

Kevin Mirallas didn’t exactly hide the fact that he wasn’t happy to remain an Everton player beyond August’s transfer deadline.

In an interview with Belgian publication DH, the out-of-favour winger accused The Toffees of ‘turning a deaf ear’ to his desire to leave on loan for former club Olympiakos, admitting that he was ‘so sad’ that his return to Greece was blocked.

Mirallas certainly doesn’t seem to be a central figure in Ronald Koeman’s plans, having played just 13 minutes of football in 2017/18 before being left out of the squad for last Sunday’s 2-0 defeat to Chelsea due to ‘attitude problems’, the manager told the Liverpool Echo.

Yet, Sporx reports that Mirallas may still be offered an escape route out of Goodison Park this week with the transfer deadline in Turkey open until Friday.

This has reportedly given Istanbul giants Fenerbahce hope that they could strike a deal to sign the 29-year-old on a season-long loan deal.

Deal unlikely?

However, although Mirallas is desperately in need of regular game time after falling out of Belgium’s plans in a World Cup year, there are enough reasons to doubt whether a deal with Fener can be struck before the end of the week.

Because the Liverpool Echo reported on deadline day that Everton were only willing to listen to permanent offers for Mirallas, which is perhaps the reason why a temporary return to Olympiakos did not materialise.

Fenerbahce has become something of a rescue home for out-of-favour Premier League rejects in recent years and, if a move did happen, Mirallas would be joining Martin Skrtel and Robin van Persie in the Yellow Canaries’ squad.
