Tottenham Hotspur are reportedly ready to break the bank to sign Federico Chiesa.
Tottenham are interested in signing Federico Chiesa this summer with the Fiorentina starlet interested in making a move to London and seeing his hopes of joining Chelsea scuppered, according to a report from The Sun.
Chiesa is establishing himself as one of the most exciting talents in Europe. He has scored five goals and contributed three assists in Serie A having played in almost every attacking role for Stefano Pioli’s men this season.
The Sun reports that sources have told them that he is interested in heading to England – despite attracting attention from Juventus and both Milan clubs – and had been hoping that the Blues would make their move.
But with Chelsea handed a transfer ban, The Sun reports that Spurs’s hopes of signing Chiesa have received a lift and Mauricio Pochettino may have a good chance of getting a move across the line if Daniel Levy agrees to pay £70 million.
The Sun suggests that Tottenham may have to sell players to set up the move for the 21-year-old, but they are seriously considering pursuing a deal for the forward – who they believe will have a sell-on value in the future.
Domestically, it has been a really disappointing spell for Spurs, who have now lost three of their last four and have fallen 13 points off Manchester City.
But that disappointment certainly leaves the door open for Pochettino’s men to prioritise their Champions League campaign. Spurs sent out a major statement with their two wins over Borussia Dortmund, and they will unquestionably back themselves against any of the sides remaining in the competition.
