Rangers are expected to finalise the signing of Oostende attacker Fashion Sakala this week, according to the Daily Record.
It’s stated that the long-anticipated swoop is on the verge of completion, with Rangers already making plans for next season.
Rangers have been linked with Sakala for months now, and the Daily Record suggested in April that Sakala was in advanced talks to join the Gers.
Now, it looks like Sakala is set to sign a pre-contract agreement with Rangers and confirm himself as a Gers player for next season and beyond, making history in the process – he will become the first Zambian international to play in the Scottish Premiership.
Rangers have utilised the pre-contract market for years now, with the likes of Josh Windass, Matt Crooks, Jordan Jones and Glen Kamara all signing such deals.
Nnamdi Ofoborh has done the same, and will arrive this summer when his Bournemouth contract expires. Jack Simpson and Scott Wright also signed pre-contract deals, but much like Kamara, ended up arriving early.
So what are Rangers getting in Sakala? Well, he’s a quick and dangerous attacker with fine movement, and he’s excelled this season with 13 goals for Oostende.
The Zambian didn’t enjoy much success in Russia with Spartak Moscow, but went off to Belgium to hone his craft, and is leaving as a much better player.
Rangers can play him up front or out wide, and having signed Kemar Roofe from Belgian football last summer, will hope that Sakala can have a similar impact.
It looks like Rangers are just days away from securing a bargain summer addition, and with Jermain Defoe’s contract set to expire, Sakala – who has a similar frame – looks to be the cut-price replacement at Ibrox.
