Tottenham Hotspur refused to allow Paulo Gazzaniga to join Everton on loan on deadline day, the Telegraph report.

Everton were keen to sign the Tottenham goalkeeper, who was described as ‘fantastic’ by Mauricio Pochettino (Spurs’ official website), as they looked to provide Jordan Pickford with more competition.

However, Spurs apparently view Everton as a rival for their Champions League spot now.

And Tottenham knocked back Everton’s approach for the Argentine stopper, as they felt that they didn’t want to strengthen Carlo Ancelotti’s side.

Tottenham’s view is a testament to how well Everton have started the season.

The Toffees have taken maximum points from their first four games, and actually beat Spurs on opening day.

After Tottenham rejected their approach, Everton ultimately went out and signed Robin Olsen from Roma to improve their goalkeeping options.
