According to The Athletic, Djed Spence told his Nottingham Forest teammates back in January that he would be joining Tottenham Hotspur this summer.
Spence has finally secured his move to north London this week, but this is a transfer that has been in the pipeline for months.
Indeed, Tottenham have been linked with Spence for months, and the player himself was quiet certain that he’d be headed to Spurs this summer, reportedly telling people within Nottingham Forest that a transfer was on the cards.
To be honest, that was quite a bullish move from Spence.
Back in January, the wing-back only had three months of solid performances in the Championship under his belt, and if the second half of the season hadn’t gone to plan, it’s hard to imagine that Tottenham would have come in for him.
However, as we all know, the ‘fantastic’ defender hit another level in 2022, helping Nottingham Forest towards promotion and ultimately securing himself a transfer to Tottenham Hotspur in the transfer window.
The fact that this move had been touted months in advance is interesting. After all, this saga seems to have dragged on for quite some time.
Indeed, despite the player himself speaking about this move in January, Spurs actually signed five other players before securing Spence’s signature as negotiations with Middlesbrough proved to be rather difficult.
However, this one has finally gotten over the line, and Spence’s January prediction about his own future has come true.
