Eddie Howe still has a chance of becoming Newcastle United’s next manager, the Athletic report.
Howe to Newcastle?
Newcastle appear now to be finally zeroing in on their replacement for Steve Bruce, with Unai Emery their leading candidate to take over.
But Newcastle are yet to agree a compensation package with Villarreal for the Spanish boss or a contract with him.
As a result Howe is now being lined up as an alternative candidate, should their move for Emery not work out
Howe would likely be a much cheaper option for Newcastle than Emery, considering he is out of work.
The Englishman dipped out of management in 2020 after Bournemouth were relegated and has not been in a job since.
Restoring reputation
Howe was once considered one of the brightest up-and-coming managers in the Premier League, but Bournemouth’s recent relegation has counted against him.
That being said, Howe has typically been praised for a forward-thinking approach and generally plays stylish football.

Indeed Harry Redknapp is one of Howe’s big admirers and labelled him a ‘fantastic’ manager in The Sun.
If Howe does take over the pressure will be on him at Newcastle almost immediately.
The Magpies are currently sat in 19th place in the Premier League table and are still looking for their first win of the season.
