Leeds Live report that Ryan Edmondson could leave Leeds United on a permanent basis in the summer – after opening his account for Port Vale on Tuesday. He scored against League Two leaders Forest Green.
Edmondson, 20, is currently on loan for a new club having only scored twice in 17 Fleetwood appearances during the first half of the campaign. The England Under-19 man has dropped down a division to Port Vale.
Starting just his second of five Port Vale appearances on Tuesday night, Edmondson netted his sixth senior goal. With his back to goal, he somehow managed to convert a corner from Chris Hussey into the top corner.
Edmondson has a contract until the summer of 2023 at Leeds but Leeds Live now report that the striker could leave permanently in the summer. A player, once branded “fantastic” by Northampton Town boss Jon Brady.
Edmondson needs to leave Leeds in summer, not a Bielsa-style striker
While Edmondson has made his debut for the senior Leeds side, he never got a look in under Marcelo Bielsa – even despite his scoring rate for the 23’s. He simply is not the style of striker Bielsa likes to use as his no.9.
Bielsa does like a striker that can win a header, but one that is also mobile and will run the channels. Edmondson is not built like that, unlike Patrick Bamford or Tyler Roberts. He is more of a target man. He needs to go.
